Tom Knight
Tom Knight grew up in Connecticut, Wisconsin, North Carolina and New Jersey before moving to BC, Canada. Tom studied human resources management at Cornell University in New York and has recently retired from teaching and consulting at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C. He and Lizzy’s mom, Gillian, still live in North Vancouver.
Though a country boy at heart, Tom had no exposure to horses growing up. He climbed onto a steep learning curve when Lizzy’s passion for horses and riding surfaced early in her life! Though he still considers himself a novice in all things equestrian, he has always been a fan and supporting player in Lizzy’s early development as a horse-person. Through the early years Tom contributed to the Fox Trot team as driver, mechanic, hot walker and cook – in addition to being a consistent cheerleader through competition trips around British Columbia and as far afield as Montana, Southern California and Washington State.
Tom’s own lifelong passion is photography and Lizzy’s equestrian exploits have been his best and favorite assignment ever! He is proud to have many of his photos presented here at the Fox Trot Equestrian web site. He looks forward to adding to this portfolio as Lizzy’s career progresses!
Gillian Knight
Like Tom, Gillian does not come from a equestrian background, although there are members of her family tree who were employed in equestrian fields such as the cavalry and barn management. She had one year of riding lessons as a child but it didn’t become the passion that it became for Lizzy. Gillian’s knowledge has come from Lizzy, as has her comfort around horses. She and Vixen did have a special relationship and would share fuzzy peach candies.
Gillian grew up in British Columbia and works in the human resources field on a full time basis. She worked from home prior to the pandemic and will continue to do so with the family’s three cats.
Gillian’s role in supporting Lizzy’s passion has largely been as a driver (before Lizzy had a license), emergency horse trailer and camper driver and of course cheerleader. She was nervous watching cross country at the higher levels so would wish Lizzy and Vixen good luck at the start box and then run over to greet them at the finish line for the cool down.
